A scene I really really liked from ~high0castle’s Dragon Age II fanfic, A Sea Without A Shore which you can read here [link] .
The fanfic is a sequel to A Distant Ray of Light [link] (written by the same author) which is also the story one of my fanarts is based on!

This scene takes place in Chapter 14 of the fanfic and it shows a tiiny moment of Anders smiling. I think it’s symbolically a glimpse into Anders’s old self, so I wanted Anders to appear a little younger in the picture than he actually is. Hence the absence of eyebags and wrinkles and— /sobs
And omg I’ve drawn Anders hundreds of times but still can’t seem to get his freaking face right. D; I’ll keep trying though.

You should read the fanfic if you haven’t already! It’s amazingly heart-wrenching.

I thought it was when I first glanced it on DevArt, and I was so happy to be right! Bwaaaah - I really need to go back and read this again.

Seriously, everyone should check out HighCastle’s amazing set of fanfics. They are quite simply, one of the best out there.

This is so incredible; I feel breathless trying to come up with a comprehensible way to describe how gorgeous and how meaningful this picture really is.

It makes me think, it gives me so many feels, and at the same time the beauty of it keeps drawing me back in again and again and again. So much so that the minute I saw it, it was instantly my new desktop wallpaper.

It really gives the whole impression of, ‘Anders standing single-handedly against his oppression.’, and there’s a lot of imagery to be drawn from that in this picture. If we take the quote into consideration here, the light pouring through the windows could be the fire in Anders’s heart, following him, seeping in and metaphorically tearing that oppression down from the inside.
